So many people call me and ask about ’chakra balancing’ or which crystals to place on chakras, that I want to write something about it. Chakras are subtle energy centres that are situated along the spine. They could be likened to spinning vortexes. There are seven major ones which all relate to experiences and qualities that form part of our life and ultimately also affect the state of our overall health & well being. The state of these chakras can be normal, spinning too fast or too slow; being blocked or even traumatised. Obviously degrees of imbalance can vary from mild to intense. This is a simplified explanation but I hope it makes sense to everyone.

In my personal view the general term ‘chakra balancing’ is an oversimplified expression.  What is it one is balancing?  Chakras relate to life experiences and at times what occurs in our life is not always all that easy to learn, process or integrate.  By ‘balancing’ chakras, problems are not miraculously solved, nor are life experiences taken away.  To give a basic example, if an individual suffers from excessive anger to do with a work colleague that s/he feels threatens her/his promotion and therefore financial gain, this could (amongst other) have created an imbalance in both the solar plexus chakra and the sacral chakra.  The solar plexus could be spinning too fast and the sacral could be blocked.  By just ‘balancing’ these chakras, the problem would not just go away, but it could help the individual to find it within her/himself to perceive this experience in a different manner and to start resolving it.

When using crystals, these would have to relate not just to the chakra itself, but also to the state of it and the overall make up of this individual.  If it would be a strong and fairly robust person, one could use a more potent type of crystal than if it would be a vulnerable and fragile person.  If the former was the case, once could for instance use the Quartz Family, but there are many different types of Quartz.  Citrine for example is uplifting and energising,  Yellow Jasper has a slower vibration.  Both are yellow crystals.  Obviously by using the Citrine, one could aggravate the state of the solar plexus in question it being overactive, so in this case the slower energy of the Jasper would be appropriate.  The blocked sacral could do with some clearing and Snowy Quartz could be effective for this.  At the same time I could give you at least ten different examples of effective crystals for such a situation.  In addition there would also be other parts of the energy field needing attention.

I hope this simple example demonstrates that there is far more involved in regard to using crystals on chakras than meets the eye and that one cannot possibly over generalise, since that would result in a hit and miss situation.  If lay people on shows ask us what crystals to use, we advise them to just look at the display of crystals and if there is anything they really like, this is usually the right overall vibration for them.  We would not advise them to use that crystal on a chakra, but just hold it or place it in their pocket for a while.  This can, however, not be termed healing.

There are many short courses or workshops on offer that address how one can use crystals in daily life and for self-care and it could be very worthwhile to attend one of these if you are interested.  If you wish to offer healing to others, please make sure you have the appropriate training and qualification before doing this, especially if using crystals.  Anyway, I hope this helps to clarify the many queries a little and if you have any further questions, please just email me, and if there are a number concerning one specific topic I will write about it on this blog…
