I recently attended a show where there were quite a number of complementary therapies stands offering taster sessions to the public.  This is a wonderful way of promoting our work since it gives people a chance to try a therapy before committing to a full appointment.  All in all it was hugely enjoyable until I noticed that a very young child, that was obviously healthy and well, was receiving a form of energetic ‘healing’ on one of the stands.  I know that the child was healthy since it had passed our stand a while before and was full of beans, cheeky and running around.  It was unfortunately obvious that the child was not comfortable receiving the therapy and the whole thing came across like some form of abuse and an intrusion to the child’s personal space.  It was uncomfortable to watch, to the point that I had to keep myself from intervening, which was unfortunately not an option.  I would hasten to say that the therapist obviously meant well, but then they could not see the child’s expression and the parent was looking at another stand.

It is not the first time that I have come across healthy children being given energy therapies that they do not need and I wish that parents would not subject them to this and definitely not on shows.  There are highly experienced therapists and healers out there, but unfortunately there are also those who are not.  Young children are mostly only truly comfortable with nurturing from their own parents and family members.  To have energy projected onto a child via a stranger is highly invasive and if not necessary should be avoided.  I would urge any parent to only let their children have energy healing when they are unwell and to then make 100% sure the therapist in question has experience in working with children, is fully qualified and has practiced for a number of years.  No therapist worth his or her salt would object to questions concerning this and in fact welcome these and offer the necessary information.

I have observed over many years that not everyone is suited to give healing to children.  It goes without saying that in an emergency any good healer could facilitate healing for a child or anyone else, but there are those who have a specific gift for working with children and I hope that in the not too distant future there will be healers who specialise in this form of healing.

There are many people who believe that healing can never be harmful and although the energy itself is always beneficial, much depends on the healer and the environment s/he is working in.  Children are more open and also more vulnerable to energies than most adults and they will rarely complain if they feel uncomfortable when receiving a healing treatment from an adult.  If a child is unwell, healing can often help but it should be facilitated in private and not on a show.  If a child is healthy, happy and well, I can only repeat, that it then definitely does not need it!  This is a sensitive subject and I hope the above may be of help to those who read it.  I am also always open to questions or comments…
