I think that a number of rules and regulations are of course necessary in order to create a decent standard of practice in healing and related therapies. This also goes for crystal and energy healing and the minimum of 2 years training and 180 hours tutor led tuition is an excellent minimum standard, although most practicing healers I know have done far more.
Because we are dealing with energies that are not visible to the naked eye, assessment procedures are difficult for those who do not have the ability to perceive such energies. A student could be excellent in all practical matters and theories but find it hard to assess someone’s energy field for blockages or actually act as a channel. Furthermore if one creates a huge amount of box ticking, including vast amounts of paperwork, this could put off the genuinely gifted student healer since most of such intuitive folk are averse to excessive officiousness and find it hard to deal with.
A minimum (but sufficient) amount of appropriate written work that demonstrates a healer’s ability concerning all theoretical matters and making sure that each healer has enough practical experience regarding the energetic side of things seems the best way to approach things. Then in addition to this make sure that those who actually have to assess student healers’ effectiveness are able to perceive energetic work.
Keeping the boundaries between conventional medicine and our therapy is also essential and clients must never be confused between the two. Healers address the subtle anatomy of a client; medical doctors deal with physical symptoms directly. These methods could not be more different because they come from opposite angles. This is why they are complementary and not an alternative once physical issues have manifested.
